Growing your business or stagnating?

By: Phil Wiley

Are you

If you're stuck in a rut and not getting anywhere here's one possible explanation: you're not exploring and exploiting all those wonderful niches out there.

Nearly everyone who gets into this "work from home on the internet" business appears to start with trying to sell internet marketing related ebooks / member sites / or related software.

It's probably the easiest "niche" to start in because you've got some real experts hyping their products.

* They use brilliant, irresistible, and persuasive sales letters promising easy riches.

* The products they're selling are something fledgling entrepreneurs are naturally interested in.

* And they run affiliate programs where you can make 30, 40, or 50 percent commission on sales.

It seems that all you've got to do to get started in this business is get people to the web page of one of these experts. And once there these people (just like you ) won't be able to resist the brilliant sales talk. Meaning you'll soon be buried under massive commission checks and your "business" will be kicked off and soaring high.

But - for most people - it just doesn't work out that way. That's because this work from home on the internet / internet marketing might be the easiest to get started in, but it's also the hardest niche to make sales in.

This is because:

1. It's a very small niche

2. It's a very overcrowded niche.

3. The experts, or "guru's" as they seem to have become known, are very good at what they do and you'll find it hard to get your pages ranked higher in Yahoo and Google than they do.

4. It's incestuous. (can I use that word without being caught by the spam filters? We'll see). By this I mean that many of the "gurus" promote each others products. And in this marketing niche people tend to buy after reading recommendations by people they know and (semi) trust. So you're competing against some of the best marketers/salespeople in the business.

I find it sad that many of the people wanting to earn a living online never get any further than this one small niche. And they either continue for years making nothing but small change, or they quit.

So whether you're a newcomer to this - or someone who has been plodding along for months or years but getting nowhere fast - what do you do about it?

Well I've said it before - and I'm saying it here again - you simply concentrates on other niches.

You LEARN from the marketing experts - how to write emotive sales copy, how to put together a winning web site, how to promote your site - but you START and GROW your own business in a different field.

I'm not just talking off the top of my head here. I'm quite well known as an internet marketing expert

( I refuse to use the word guru when it comes to myself. As far as I'm concerned a guru is an advanced or enlightened spiritual teacher. I'm about as advanced, and as fast, as an earthworm. Though come to think of it, as far as I know the word guru is a Sanskrit or Pan-Indian word, and it's literal meaning is "weighty one." Which kind of does fit me. Since my recent jaunt to England, where I consumed far too much food and beer, I am indeed the "weighty one." )

So all hail the guru "Phil the Weighty One".
